One of yesterday’s newspapers published a quote from Isocrates as its front page. Here’s my translation:
“Our democracy is destroying itself because the right to freedom and equality has been abused, because it has taught its citizens to regard impudence as a right, lawlessness as freedom, impudence in speech as equality, and anarchy as bliss” Isocrates 436-338 BC.
“Our democracy is destroying itself because the right to freedom and equality has been abused, because it has taught its citizens to regard impudence as a right, lawlessness as freedom, impudence in speech as equality, and anarchy as bliss” Isocrates 436-338 BC.
It should also be noted that the Apostle Paul wrote to this city nearly 2000 years ago stressing, among other things, the importance of working for a living. It is the disregard of his instruction that is an important factor behind the current troubles. The people responsible for the current mayhem have grown up to love destruction rather than labour. Some of them have no doubt studied or at least attended academic institutions for years, only to come to the conclusion that paradise is to be achieved by tearing apart with the hands rather than working with them as the apostle prided himself in doing.
This is a photo I took yesterday that shows the anarchists stopping a bus and forcing the driver to let in some of their number to distribute leaflets.
