Clean Monday

Today is a bank holiday here in Greece - Clean Monday, the first day in Great Lent, which differs from the Western Lent in that Sundays are included in the forty days. The special food is Laghana, a sweet bread reminiscent of Kolacs in Hungary, eaten with Halva - sweetened sesame seeds. Also fish is on the menu, and this I could smell this as I walked past my neighbours' houses.
Another tradition is kite flying, which was particularly difficult today with practically no wind. The pictures were taken on the front as you head from the White Tower, south towards Kalamaria.
